David dosa oscar cat7/5/2023 In spite of the fact that Dosa is intimidated by felines, the story of Oscar is beautifully written. He is not particularly fond of cats, which lends the narrative an interesting perpective he was initially skeptical of Oscar's ability and writes about the cat with a tiny bit of distance. Oscar's ability to determine which patient is going to pass away at Steere House, the nursing home in which he lives, has made it easier for nurses to determine when to call family members to let them know it's time to say their last goodbyes and, Oscar has served as a comfort to many.ĭavid Dosa is the doctor who brought Oscar to fame when he published a journal article about the cat's special abilities. Unless you live under a rock, you've probably heard about Oscar, a cat who became famous for curling up with nursing home residents within hours of their deaths. Cat-deprived little me was dying to read anything at all about cats to get my feline fix (and the offer still stands - I will always review cat books of any kind). I begged for a copy of Making Rounds with Oscar when I saw info about the book and a very kind rep from Hyperion sent me a copy. Let's get the FTC info out of the way up front. Making Rounds with Oscar: The Extraordinary Gift of an Ordinary Cat by David Dosa, M.D.

James michener hawaii first edition7/4/2023 It was published in 1969, and republished in 20. He also wrote Presidential Lottery: The Reckless Gamble in Our Electoral System, in which he condemned the United States' Electoral College system. A number of his other stories and novels were adapted for films and TV series. His first book was adapted as the popular Broadway musical South Pacific, by Rodgers and Hammerstein, and later as eponymous feature films in 19, adding to his financial success. Return to Paradise combines fictional short stories with Michener's factual descriptions of the Pacific areas where they take place. His non-fiction works include Iberia, about his travels in Spain and Portugal his memoir, The World Is My Home and Sports in America. Michener's books include Tales of the South Pacific, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1948 Hawaii The Drifters Centennial The Source The Fires of Spring Chesapeake Caribbean Caravans Alaska Texas Space Poland and The Bridges at Toko-ri. Many of his works were bestsellers and were chosen by the Book of the Month Club he was known for the meticulous research that went into his books. He wrote more than 40 books, most of which were long, fictional family sagas covering the lives of many generations in particular geographic locales and incorporating detailed history. The employees by olga ravn7/4/2023 The transcriptions are numbered and are included in the book in a mostly chronological order. Ravn produces only the words the workers said to whoever it is that is asking them questions. There is not a single character given a name in the book and the questions asked to the employees are not recorded. The Employees is written in the form of transcribed interviews of the anonymous employees of the Six-Thousand Ship. But the novel is just as much within the genre of workplace dramedy as it is science fiction, as the full substance of the book is dedicated to exploring the (dys-)functioning of the spacecraft as a place where people work. It is a work of science fiction, detailing the inner workings of a deep space-travelling spacecraft, the Six-Thousand Ship, as its crew explores an exoplanet called New Discovery. Continuing with the now decades-long trend of blending literary and genre fiction, The Employees does not stop there it also mixes multiple genres. Olga Ravn’s The Employees is a tiny wisp of a book-it can easily be read in a single afternoon-but it packs quite a bit of fun and literary panache in between its narrow covers. Queen of scots john guy7/4/2023 He pictures a canny queen consciously steering a middle path through these tricky waters (and one who became so ardent a Catholic only in her later years, when she had no more becoming habit in which to deck herself for posterity). Again, convention sees her fainting in the face of what were admittedly overwhelming challenges. Mary was 16 when she added Queen consort of France to her titles 17 when she became a widow 18 when she returned to take up the reins of her own turbulent land. But not Guy, who sees her instead as having received the benefits of a broad masculine education, and a sophisticated training in the arts of political deception at the hands of her Guise uncles. That Mary's cushy, alienating upbringing ruined her as queen regnant of a rough country is virtually the only thing on which her biographers have tended to agree. Queen of Scotland from the week of her birth, Mary was only five when she was sent across the sea to France, to be reared as a bride for the young Dauphin a ceremonial role for which her beauty and her frivolous talents seemed to fit her. In a surprisingly partisan new biography, there is scarcely a single aspect of her life to which he does not give a twist. On to this already crowded stage steps John Guy, with the aplomb of a magician about to pull several large, lively rabbits from the hat. Unsweetined7/4/2023 In this deeply personal, utterly raw, and ultimately inspiring memoir, Jodie comes clean about the double life she led-the crippling identity crisis, the hidden anguish of juggling a regular childhood with her Hollywood life, and the vicious cycle of abuse and recovery that led to a relapse even as she wrote this book. The harrowing battle she swore she had won was really just beginning. Even then, she kept a painful secret-one that could not be solved in thirty minutes with a hug, a stern talking-to, or a bowl of ice cream around the family table. Her ups and downs seemed not so different from our own, but more than a decade after the popular television show ended, the star publicly revealed her shocking recovery from methamphetamine addiction. Jodie Sweetin melted our hearts and made us laugh for eight years as cherub-faced, goody-two-shoes middle child Stephanie Tanner. In this “explosive” ( Us Weekly) and “brutally honest” (E! Online) memoir, Jodie Sweetin, once Danny Tanner’s bubbly daughter on America’s favorite family sitcom, takes readers behind the scenes of Full House and into her terrifying-and uplifting-real-life story of addiction and recovery.
